Precious Littles Early Childhood Development
Center, Inc. was founded in 1994 by Bridgette Turner, who
is still presently the Executive Director, and was raised
in the "Vailsburg" area. Bridget Turner had a
vision and a dream to educate the children and families
in the community, and for children to have a healthy start
to their primary years of their educational life.
The Center started as a small storefront
day care center, with a capacity of only holding 28 children.
Two years after it's existence, the community sought a need
for more infant and toddler childcare slots, so Precious
Littles adhered to the demand of the community by expanding
its space by knocking a wall down and adding an additional
20 slots to the center. Two years after that, there became
a demand for preschool slots, based on the state Supreme
Court decision (Abbot). So Precious Littles found a building
to purchase, purchased it and made it a preschool site,
which holds a capacity of fifty children. So, from 1994
to Present, Precious Littles has grown in size, recognition
and accomplishments.
At the End of year 2000, The Board of Directors
and the Executive Director revisited the mission and vision
of Precious Littles and realized that Precious Littles was
no longer a day care center, the Center had turned into
a Early Childhood Educational Facility, that was offering
much more than just day care services. Precious Littles
was providing and decided to continue to answer to the calls
of the community, and in doing so, the Center had been providing
family services, health screenings, counseling, job training,
lending libraries, resources and referrals, etc. So, the
Board of Directors and the Executive decided to expand on
services by (1) changing the name from Precious Littles
Day Care Center, Inc. to Precious Littles Early Childhood
Development Center, Inc. (2) incorporating Precious Littles
Community Outreach Center, (3) changing the mission from
saying "highest quality child care services" to
say we provide "highest quality family services."
Precious Littles Board of Directors and
Executive Director has also voted and decided to amend the
original By-Laws to add more board members and committees,
so that Precious Littles can continue to effectively enhance
current programs and expand and/or add new programs in the
community.
